Kano deputy governor reportedly resigns

In Kano State on Friday, reports emerged that the Deputy Governor, Abdulsalam Gwarzo, has stepped down from his position. The development was announced in a statement issued by the Kwankwasiyya Movement, although the state government has not yet issued an official confirmation regarding the resignation.

According to the statement signed by the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed, the decision was taken after careful thought and was aimed at preserving political stability in the state.

The group explained that current political circumstances had made it difficult for Gwarzo to effectively carry out his responsibilities as deputy governor.

The reported resignation follows recent allegations raised against him by the Kano State House of Assembly. However, the movement stated that his decision to step aside should not be seen as an admission of guilt, maintaining that he stands by his record in public office and continues to deny any wrongdoing.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement further disclosed that the former deputy governor intends to devote more time to strengthening the political group, particularly as it prepares and reorganises ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group described the decision as a personal one taken in the interest of broader political goals.
