Ex-Presidential Aspirant Hayatu-Deen Dumps PDP for ADC

Former presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the African Democratic Congress on Sunday, April 12, 2026, in Nigeria, as he seeks a new political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections due to concerns about insecurity, economic hardship, and the state of democracy.

Hayatu-Deen, who previously contested for the presidency under the PDP, said his decision followed growing challenges across the country, including rising living costs and safety concerns. He explained that he believes a different political platform is needed to address these issues and offer better direction for governance.

His move comes at a time when the PDP is facing internal disagreements at the national level, leading to the exit of several key members to other parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress and the ADC. This shift reflects ongoing changes within Nigeria’s political space as parties prepare for the next election cycle.

Hayatu-Deen stated that his new party offers what he sees as a workable option for improving security, stabilising the economy, and creating jobs. He added that he plans to use his background in business and economic reforms to support the party’s efforts and contribute to national development.

He also raised concerns about the current political climate, noting that opposition voices are facing increasing pressure and that democratic participation appears to be narrowing. According to him, the country needs a system where different views can exist and compete fairly.

Looking ahead, Hayatu-Deen said he would actively campaign with the ADC and work towards building support for the party before the 2027 elections. He expressed hope that his involvement would help bring about a safer environment and better economic conditions for Nigerians.
