Nasarawa Residents Burn Gov Sule’s Campaign Posters

Tension was recorded in a part of Nasarawa State on Friday after a group of residents openly destroyed campaign materials belonging to Governor Abdullahi Sule ahead of the 2027 elections.

The incident occurred in Kofan Kaura, Lafia Local Government Area, where angry residents were captured in a video burning posters promoting the governor’s bid for the Nasarawa North senatorial seat. The protesters also set fire to flags of the All Progressives Congress and bundles of brooms, the party’s official symbol.

The video, which circulated on social media, showed residents expressing opposition to what they described as attempts to influence the electoral process. Messages displayed during the protest indicated dissatisfaction with alleged political imposition and concerns about the conduct of party affairs in the state.

The development comes as political activities continue to gather pace ahead of the 2027 general election. Governor Sule, who is currently serving his second and final term in office, recently secured victory in the APC primary election for the Nasarawa North senatorial district.

His decision to contest the Senate seat attracted attention because he had previously stated during a television appearance that he would not seek another elective position after completing his tenure as governor.

Despite that earlier position, the governor entered the senatorial race and emerged victorious in the APC primary. Official results from the exercise showed that he defeated his challenger, Silas Agara, by a wide margin after polling tens of thousands of votes.

Friday’s protest has added another dimension to the political atmosphere in Nasarawa State, with the burning of campaign materials drawing attention from party members, residents, and political observers.

While there was no immediate official response from Governor Sule or the APC regarding the incident, the protest reflects the growing political tensions in parts of the state as preparations for the next general election continue.

The event also comes at a time when several political parties across the country are dealing with disputes and reactions arising from their primary elections, as aspirants and supporters position themselves for the 2027 polls.
