The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking for the dismissal of the six-count charge filed against her by the Federal Government.

The lawmaker described the case as an abuse of legal power and a misuse of state resources, claiming it was meant to protect Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello from public criticism.

Through her legal team, Akpoti-Uduaghan argued that the Attorney General of the Federation acted outside the law by filing the case, saying the Constitution only allows prosecution in the interest of justice and the public. She insisted that the charges were politically motivated and not in the interest of Nigerians.

In an affidavit, she explained that the allegations against her were based on comments made about Akpabio and Bello in their private capacities, not as public officials. She attached newspaper reports as evidence, stating that they exposed the true character of those she spoke about.
The senator added that the charges were filed in bad faith and served as a means of silencing her while using public funds for personal battles. She urged the court to strike out the case, maintaining that it was a clear case of political intimidation and abuse of authority.
