BREAKING: Explosion in Ibadan, houses in ruins, shopping mall, UCH, hotels affected

An explosion has occurred in Ibadan,the political capital of Yoruba Nation.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening.

Our correspondent has not been able to confirm the cause of the bang. However, a source said the major electricity supply source to Ibadan was the main infrastructural casualty of the explosion.

There were unconfirmed reports that deaths of innocent people occurred but the police has not released any official confirmation received of deaths to Irohinoodua.

A security official who spoke to our reporter said no fewer than 10 people were killed. Other sources said several people were either killed or wounded.

Sources said the explosion took place around Bodija at the Ibadan Electricity feeder station not too far from the home of the assassinated Chief Bola Ige. The source said he suspected sabotage.

“We heard a big bang. It was a loud explosion. Some houses were brought down. It took place around Bodija some minutes before 8pm on Tuesday night” a lawyer who does nor wish to be named told Irohinoodua.

He said the home of a Professor who lives in the area was destroyed by the explosion. Irohinoodua will bring further details as more information are received.

Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information and orientation in a statement made available to Irohinoodua said

There are various interpretations of the incident but it is important for us to state categorically that the state government has taken over and in the full control of the unfortunate occurrence in in order to mitigate the incident.

All security service chiefs including para military chiefs and Fire Operatives have been deployed by the governor to Reign in the spillover from the explosion.

He said Governor Seyi Makinde therefore implores citizens to calm down and be rest assured that their interests are being looked after.
