Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has announced new security actions aimed at bringing banditry to an end across the state. The governor made this known in Sokoto on Wednesday while opening the 17th regular meeting of the State Executive Council, which was also the final council meeting for 2025.
Aliyu said the fresh steps were designed to strengthen ongoing security efforts, especially in areas affected by violent attacks, kidnappings, cattle rustling and the displacement of communities. He explained that the new approach would focus on improving intelligence gathering and deepening cooperation with security agencies operating in the state.
The governor stated that since assuming office, his administration has consistently provided security agencies with logistics and other forms of support to help them operate effectively in the 13 local government areas troubled by banditry. He added that existing measures were already producing results, and the new initiatives would further improve the situation.
Aliyu called on residents to support government efforts by working closely with security agencies and sharing useful information that could help prevent attacks. He noted that the fight against banditry requires joint effort between the government and the people.
The governor also praised members of the State Executive Council for their support, saying the progress recorded by his administration so far was a result of teamwork. He thanked the people of Sokoto State for their cooperation and prayers, assuring them of better outcomes in governance.
During the meeting, Aliyu congratulated the newly appointed Head of the Civil Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed Mohamed, and the Senior Special Assistant on Cabinet Matters, Bande Rika. He urged them to contribute actively to the success of his administration’s nine-point Smart Innovative Agenda.
